How to Build a Healthy, Mood-Boosting Lifestyle

Want to build a healthy, mood-boosting lifestyle? Lets take it in small steps. For some, moving into 2022 has brought feelings of hopelessness. This is a debilitating feeling and it’s difficult to improve when you feel like there’s no point in trying. But, taking action is the only way to start feeling better, and even the smallest changes can have a big impact on your mood!

Let's have a look at a couple of simple ways to start building some healthy habits.

  1. Learn & practice being present in the moment by focusing on the here and now. Start by noticing the sensations you are feeling in your body and the thoughts that are passing through your mind. Remember to not judge yourself or worry about the future – just observe. When we are practicing mindfulness we can learn to separate ourselves from our feelings, and this makes it easier to respond to them constructively.

  2. Set achievable goals. Make consistent, regular progress at something can lift your feelings almost immediately. Set small, manageable goals and chip away at them everyday, just make sure they are not big or overwhelming goals, or you may feel like you’ll never reach them and get discouraged. If you want to set a big goal for yourself, break it down into smaller sub-goals so you can see your progress more easily.

  3. Get moving. Exercise is a powerful mood booster so try and aim to get thirty minutes of moderate activity every day - Cardiovascular exercise is best so try going for a walk, run, or bike ride in the fresh air (with a mate)! Consistent workouts are better than intense, but infrequent workouts, so don’t push yourself too hard, but get started today. You're new training buddy will love you for it!
